Senior Trust & Company Administrator Print E-mail

APP trusts are short-form discretionary trusts for South African residents which are restricted to investment holding, i.e. securities, cash, life policies.  APAT trusts are very similar to APP Trusts although the trust assets are not quite so restricted and they are not necessarily only for South African residents.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Arranging purchases/sales of investments
  • Liaising with clients/fund managers/agents
  • Dealing with client/agent day to day queries
  • Monitoring progress of deals
  • Letters/faxes/emails to clients/agents sending out copy contract notes/fee notes, etc
  • Drafting standard trust deeds, letters of wishes and loan agreements
  • Preparing trustee resolutions and minutes
  • Producing/checking half yearly reporting – investigating/rectifying any discrepancies
  • Calculating loan interest, posting to the nominal ledger and producing loan interest confirmation letters to the clients for tax purposes
  • Producing/checking manual valuations for APAT (these are not yet automated)
  • Preparation of monthly holdings and transactions lists/forwarding same to agents in SA
  • Arranging distributions/payments
  • Arranging fee payments (including credit card payments, arranging redemptions to raise cash, contacting clients for new credit card details)
  • Collecting compliance documentation from clients/liaising with Compliance Dept
  • Day to day trust administration
  • Book-keeping/ensuring accurate nominal ledgers are kept to facilitate the production of short-form accounts
  • Maintaining breakdowns of commissions due and arranging payment
  • Assisting clients to open personal bank accounts
  • A basic awareness of tax issues.  A knowledge of South African tax issues, in particular, would be of assistance but not essential.
  • APP and APAT are part of a larger client facing trust and company administration/private wealth team.  When time allows there should also be an opportunity to work on a full range of trust and company work for both SA clients and other jurisdictions in addition to the above if desired.

  • Possess organisational/prioritisation skills
  • Possess good interpersonal skills to allow for good relationship with demanding clients
  • Generally have at least 4 years experience in trust administration
